Get ready to get your wild thing on!  On Friday, October 14, Goose Creek Wildlife Sanctuary (GCWS) will host its annual Wild Thing Auction at the Capital City Country Club from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.  This year marks the eleventh anniversary of the event that will be bigger and better than ever!  Hundreds of items will be up for bid in the silent auction.  More than 40 certificates for stays at the best hotels, resorts and spas in Florida as well as vacation packages to such places as Hawaii, and California’s wine country will go to the highest bidders.  In addition, there will be a variety of other items including jewelry, furniture, art, local restaurant and retail certificates, themed baskets for children and adults such as Wildlife, Princess, Holiday, Cat and Dog Lover, and Wine Time.  The always entertaining live auction begins at 7 p.m. and will feature some truly unique items. 

 

The Wild Thing Auction serves as GCWS’s primary fundraiser.  Proceeds are used to purchase medicine, food and specialized equipment necessary to help hundreds of animals in need.  A grassroots organization, GCWS was founded 23 years ago by a group of passionate wildlife advocates. Remaining loyal to their mission and just as passionate today, they continue to rehabilitate orphaned, injured, sick and displaced native wildlife in our area.

 

“Our primary focus has always been about the animals,” said GCWS president Noni Beck.  In addition to taking care of the animals, GCWS also provides free educational seminars often visiting local schools to teach children about wildlife native to Florida.
